Finding Free Gym Equipment In Your Own Home

Membership of a professional gym is expensive. If you want to lose weight and get your money’s worth, you will need to go at least 3 times a week. For most of us, the enthusiasm and dedication soon wears off, and we end up wasting the money, locked into a year-long contract. Before you spend the money on gym membership, take a look around – you have gym equipment in your home too.

Chair or Exercise Machine?

Use a straight-backed chair from your dining room to do this exercise every day. Place the chair in a clear space and sit on it with your back straight. Straighten your right leg until it is parallel to the floor, then slowly lower it again. Repeat this ten times, then do the same with the left leg. If you are managing ten quite comfortably, try doing it 15 or 20 times each day.

These Weights are Really Free

A good way to build muscle in your arms is with free weights, but they can be quite pricey. Traditional push-ups will develop your arms using your own body weight, but some find them a bit difficult to start with. Instead, stand about arms-length behind a sofa. Lean forward and place your hands on the back of the sofa, then bend your elbows until your chest touches the sofa. Slowly straighten your arms, keeping your back straight throughout the movement. If you can comfortably repeat this 5 times, you are ready to move back to the traditional push-up from the floor. Once you’re on the floor, you can also do some leg raises. Make sure you have enough space and there are no valuable items you might bump and break nearby. Lie on your side and slowly raise the top leg as far as you can, hold it for a second or two, then slowly bring it back down. Repeat on both sides five times, increasing the number as you feel stronger.

Use the Stairs or Take a Walk

Another excellent way to exercise on the cheap is the good, old-fashioned walk. The movement is great exercise for your body, but it can also reduce stress. Take a walk at lunchtime, before work, or after dinner. During the walk you will have time to clear your head, breathe some air and let the tensions of the day evaporate. If you live or work in a building that has an elevator, most people will hop in the box rather than climbing the stairs. But taking the stairs a couple of times a day will help build your muscles and your heart. The exercise can also invigorate you after that post-lunch lethargy.

Gardening is Great Exercise

Spending an hour in your garden, pulling weeds, turning compost, mowing the lawn, or trimming edges is a full-body workout. Most gardens require constant attention, so this is not a one-time deal. You will need to put in this effort every week and your body will feel the result.
